- Open the Facebook Messenger app on your mobile device.
- Ensure you are logged in to your Facebook account.
- To start a new conversation, tap the "Compose" button (pencil icon) from the Chats screen.
- In the recipient field, enter the name of the person you want to have an encrypted conversation with. It should be someone who also has the Facebook Messenger app.
- Tap on the person's name from the search results to open the chat window.
- Within the chat window, please tap the person's name at the top of the screen to access their profile settings.
- Scroll down and look for the "Secret Conversation" option. Tap on it to enable Secret Conversations for this chat.
- A pop-up window will appear, explaining that Secret Conversations are only visible on the device where you enable them. Tap on "Turn On" to proceed.
- The chat window will switch to Secret Conversation mode. You will notice a padlock icon at the top right corner of the screen, indicating that your conversation is now encrypted.
- Start typing your message as usual. You can send text, photos, videos, and stickers in a regular chat.
- Once you have composed your message, tap the send button to deliver the encrypted message to your recipient.
- Remember that Secret Conversations only work on the specific device where you enabled them. If you switch to a different device, you won't be able to see the Secret Conversations from the previous device.
It's important to note that Secret Conversations are separate from regular Messenger conversations, and you must enable them for each chat. Also, Secret Conversations do not support features like reactions, payments, or group chats.
