You must enter a special SMS code sent to your phone number every time you try to log in, ensuring that only you can access your account. The process is easy to follow and is explained with helpful pictures, so take your time and review each step carefully. With this extra layer of security, you can feel more confident and at ease when using your Facebook account.
- Go to Facebook.com and log in to your account.
- Click on the small down arrow in the top right corner of the screen and select "Settings & Privacy" from the drop-down menu.
- From the Settings & Privacy menu, select "Security and Login".
- Scroll to the "Two-Factor Authentication" section and click "Edit".
- You will be prompted to choose the 2FA method you want to use. Facebook offers several options, including authentication apps, text message (SMS) codes, and security keys.
- Please choose the method you want to use and follow the prompts to set it up. For example, if you choose an authentication app, you will need to download the app, scan a QR code on your screen, and enter a code generated by the app.
- Once you have set up your chosen 2FA method, you will be asked to enter a code or confirm your login attempt every time you log in to Facebook from an unknown device or location.
- You can also set up trusted contacts to help you regain access to your account if you get locked out. To do this, go to the "Security and Login" page and click on "Choose friends" under the "Trusted Contacts" section.
That's it! By enabling 2-step verification on your Facebook account, you have added an extra layer of security to protect your personal information.
