- Step 1:
- Close Word and restart your computer.
- Close Microsoft Office Word if it is open.
- Save any unsaved work in other applications and close them as well.
- Please restart your computer. This will refresh your system and close the background processes causing conflicts with Word.
- Step 2:
- Disable add-ins
- Open Microsoft Office Word in Safe Mode. Ctrl-click the Word icon or launch Word from the Start menu to do this.
- In Safe Mode, click the File tab in the upper left corner of the Word window.
- Select Options from the drop-down menu.
- In the left sidebar of the Word Options window, click Add-ins.
- Select COM Add-ins from the Manage drop-down menu at the bottom of the window and click the Go button.
- Uncheck the box next to the listed add-ins and click the OK button. Close Word normally and restart it to see if the problem is resolved.
- Step 3:
- Repair your Microsoft Office installation
- Close all Microsoft Office applications, including Word.
- Open the Control Panel on your computer.
- Click Programs or Programs and Features.
- Find Microsoft Office in the list of installed programs.
- Right-click on Microsoft Office and select Change or Repair.
- Follow the instructions to repair your Office installation. This process may take some time.
- After the repair, restart your computer and try opening Word again.
- Step 4:
- Disable hardware graphics acceleration
- Open Microsoft Office Word.
- Click the File tab in the upper left corner of the Word window.
- Select Options from the drop-down menu.
- In the left sidebar of the Word Options window, click Advanced. Scroll down to the Display section.
- Check the box next to "Disable hardware graphics acceleration".
- Click the OK button to save your changes.
- Close Word and restart it to see if the problem is resolved.
- Step 5:
- Repair the Word document. If the problem persists with a particular Word document, you can fix the problem by following the steps below.
- Open Microsoft Office Word. Click the File tab in the upper left corner of the Word window.
- Select Open and navigate to the problematic document.
- Click the arrow next to the Open button instead of clicking directly on the document.
- Select Open and Repair from the drop-down menu.
- Word will attempt to repair and open the document. Save it with a new name to avoid overwriting the original file.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may need to reinstall Microsoft Office or contact Microsoft Support for assistance. Note that specific steps and options may vary slightly depending on your Microsoft Office version and operating system.
